2010 Polaris Short List Announced!

The short list for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize has been announced!
The final 10 finalists are:
The Besnard Lakes (Album: The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night)
Broken Social Scene (Album: Forgiveness Rock Record)
Caribou (Album: Swim)
Karkwa (Album: Les Chemins De Verre)
Dan Mangan (Album: Nice, Nice, Very Nice)
Owen Pallett (Album: Heartland)
Radio Radio (Album: Belmundo Regal)
The Sadies (Album: Darker Circles)
Shad (Album: TSOL)
Tegan and Sara (Album: Sainthood)

Some interesting facts about your top ten:
Of those on the 2010 Short List, half of the artists have made it this far before (The Besnard Lakes, 2007; Broken Social Scene, 2006; Caribou, 2008; Owen Pallett, 2006 and Shad, 2008). There is also a pair of artists in the 2010 Short List who made it even further and took home the prize, they are Owen Pallet (as Final Fantasy) for his He Poos Clouds album in 2006 followed by Caribou for their 2008 album, Andorra.
Two of the artists in the 2010 Short List sing or rap in French, of that pair one is Acadian (Radio, Radio).
The Polaris Music Prize is judged by 198 folks that include journalists, broadcasters and blogers from across the country who provide their top five picks for albums put out between June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010. They get narrowed down to the much anticipated Long List of 40, which then gets further whittled down to the even more anticipated Short List of ten. A specially selected jury of just 11 will pick the winner of those, who picks up the a Polaris Music Prize on September 20 followed by a broadcast of live performances from the top 10 on September 25 that you can catch on MuchMusic at 9pm.
Last year’s winner was The Chemistry of Common Life by Fucked Up – a Toronto based punk band.
