The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival has announced the first recipient of the Michelle Jackson Emerging Filmmaker Award, presented by the Royal Bank of Canada.

Announced June 2, it became known that Allison White, graduate of Sheridan College’s Film Production program has received the honour.  White will receive a total of $13,500 in cash with an additional $27,500 in services, all furnished by a series of industry partners and sponsors that include RBC, CBC-St. John’s, NLFDC, NIFCO, KODAK Canada, PS Atlantic, Stewart McKelvey, Deluxe Toronto, Atlantic Film Festival and script services from Gail Collins of Powerpost.

Chair of the upcoming St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, Noreen Golfman says of the occasion, “this is a prize well worth the wait.” Adding, “it’s the culmination of the efforts of Michelle’s friends and our industry partners. The Festival is proud to host the Award in Michelle’s memory. We congratulate Allison as the first recipient of this award and look forward to seeing the film this fall.”

White has recently worked on the hit series Republic of Doyle as well as Sherry White’s big screen success – Crackie.  She has also worked with Best Boy Productions and the NFB.  Her short film decoloured will be shot over the summer and is about a colour-blind man who can see colour only when he’s in the presence of his new friend Amber.
